Details
Our Fear Free® Puppy Specialist will gently guide you & your pups through the 45 minute training sessions, using only positive reinforcement methods to create a calm and nurturing experience for all.
Puppies will experience surfaces (tarps, cardboard), inanimate objects (holiday decorations, trash can) and things that move (broom, rolling suitcase). During this time the puppy family will learn to read body language and how to provide support for their puppy during the learning process.
One or two new skills will be introduced in each session, such as attention, name recognition, recall, and hand touch. Distractions will be added to the skills each week, which strengthens the learned behaviors and shows puppy parents how to manage challenges during their training.
At the end of each session, puppies will be given the opportunity to explore together in an enriching environment, as opposed to a sterile space that often encourages WWE style play.
During breaks, puppy parents can ask questions about what’s being learned and common puppy "issues" like nipping, chewing, jumping, etc.
Policies
Puppies must have at least one round of vaccinations administered at least 7 days prior to beginning and a negative fecal test.
Trainer Bio
Alisa Healy KPA CTP, LFDM-T, Puppy Specialist
Alisa specializes in coaching humans to raise well-rounded puppies for a harmonious life together. She is a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner (KPA CTP) which is the “Gold Standard” in positive, Fear Free® dog training. She is also a Licensed Family Dog Mediator (LFDM-T) and has been training dogs for almost 10 years.
After years working with dogs of all ages, Alisa recognized that early training and socialization has a lifelong, positive impact on a puppy’s temperament and behavior and decided to focus her work on coaching puppy parents through this important stage.
Alisa has a wide range of experiences, which have helped her grow her skills as a trainer. She’s worked with shelter dogs in Malawi, Africa, coaching incarcerated youth as they learned to clicker train dogs, and has trained a variety of animals at wildlife rescues, including porcupines, foxes and wallabies.
Alisa believes training should be fun and enjoyable for both the puppy and the human. Training is a way to build a bond of trust and connection with a puppy and to help them be the best pup they can be in our modern, human world. Alisa lives with her husband and two dogs, who are delightful hiking buddies and agility teammates.
